16 Dr. Cohn Eye Project – Blindness

With little in the way of equipment and personnel, Geoff Cohn and the Eye Foundation under the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists have achieved slow, but steady progress in eye care in Myanmar. Under this project is listed two events. In October 2002 Geoff Cohn and a team of ophthalmologists travelled to Mandalay and installed an Argon laser at the medical clinic at the Phaung Daw Oo monastic school and performed a large number of cataract and other eye surgeries over a couple of weeks. The trip was repeated in 2004 with another group of surgeons, who visited the clinic in Sagain just outside Mandalay. The total number of direct beneficiaries is estimated at about 2,000 people.
