97 Bogale Eye Clinic

97 Bogale Eye Clinic

Myanmar has one of the highest published rates of blindness in the world. Only 200 ophthalmologists service the population which has a current backlog of approximately 600,000 cataracts. Myanmar has one of the highest prevalence rates in the world with 8.1% blindness in rural areas. Myanmar has 40.4% low vision in rural areas, of which 70% is due to cataracts. Blindness is both a cause and a result of poverty. When people regain their vision, their quality of life is vastly improved. To assist in addressing these issues, the project will equip an eye clinic in Bogale and train 4 Operation Technicians to staff the clinic. The project aimed to perform minimum 120 procedures on a monthly basis.
