The Fred Hollows Foundation worked in the four Northern Provinces of Laos to train 36 District Health Workers and 175 Village Health Workers to enable them to identify common eye problems, treat basic problems at community level and refer complex cases to the appropriate level of the health system for treatment. The project performed 700 cataract surgeries and 100 other sight restoring surgeries subsidised for the poor, enabling improved quality of life.
