180 Pond Improvements Kabilvastu

180 Pond Improvements Kabilvastu

Individuell Maenniskohjaelp (IM) and its local implementing partner IRDC (Integrated Rural Development Centre) manages the project. The project intends to improve livelihoods of marginalized farmers by investing in pond improvement and provision of support for smallholder farmers to commercialize their farming, and establishing viable institutions to sustain the project intervention. The project is designed on the principle of revolving the investment made available for rehabilitation of ponds to support similar initiatives of other target communities in the area. This project will support rehabilitation and improvement of two ponds in Buddhabhumi Municipality of Kapilvastu district (Tingherawa Pond and Barkalpur Pond) benefitting 2,213 smallholder farmers in 461 households, primarily from the Tharu ethnic minority. The project has managed already to stretch the benefits to a third pond with a separate group of beneficiaries.
