The Victory Garden Campaign in the Phalombe District brings food-growing from maize monoculture fields outside the village to non-labor intensive, diversified gardens by the homestead established on permaculture principles. With these small, no-cost, high-yield organic gardens – Victory Gardens – 15,000 families or 50,000 people grew enough food to feed their families and to a significant degree provide income for the families from selling or bartering produce. Additional support was provided for flood victims in 2018.
