14 Save the children from TB

This threee-year campaign to save the children from TB was established in July 2002 providing health education on TB in four Myanmar townships, two in Yangon Division and two in Mandalay division. The information for schoolchildren was distributed through school teachers and community development volunteers. Towards the end of 2005 when the project was winding up, The Global Fund entered into an agreement with the Ministry of Health. However GF withdrew again 3 months later because of access restrictions. To coordinate the efforts of a large number of bilateral donors and to fill the funding gap left when the Global Fund withdrew, the three diseases fund (3DF) was created by DFID, EC, AusAid, Norway, Netherlands and Sweden.
According to evaluation reports the 3DF has been successful in providing humanitarian assistance in a very difficult environment where others have failed, but is still estimated to cover merely 5-10 percent of the need. World Vision was one of the implementing partners of 3DF. The overall conclusion is that TB in Myanmar was contained.
