The Millennium Village Project aims to scale up the appropriate technologies identified in the Millennium Dryland Pilot Village in Dertu in Eastern Kenya. TCF is funding the health, water and sanitation components of the project and is aiming at reducing Mother Mortality Rate from 1300/100k to 650/100k and Under Five Child Mortality from 163/k to 54/k and reduce the level of HIV infection from 2% to <1%.
The project sought to reduce the percentage of population without access to sustainable water from 75% to 35% through the provision of water sources and training in watersource management. It is estimated that the project benefitted 20,000 people.
