Soil and Water Conservation Project with the Tibetan Rabgayling Settlement in Hunsur. This project was designed to change the cropping practises, improve the soils and water table as a way to make agriculture an econommical option for the young Tibetans fleeing the settlements.
The trenching and bunding of the soil along with application of fine silt has improved the soil quality and GDG confirmed the increased yields reported by the settlement. The only problem was that when the vegetation in the area regenerated, wild elephants was attracted as well and trampled many a good crop. Eventually a fence was erected (paid by another donor) that managed to solve the problem.,
